Man Kills Noodle Shop Customer, Orders More Ramen Before Arrest

Man kills customer, sits down to second helping of ramen before being arrested

While there’s nothing better than a huge bowl of ramen after a hard day’s work, one Tokyo man took the concept a little too far. After assaulting and killing a fellow customer at a Chinese restaurant last September, a 38-year old unemployed man allegedly ordered an extra serving of ramen as he awaited his arrest. He finally explained his logic in court this week, but netizens have found it highly unsatisfying: he was worried he wouldn’t be able to eat ramen anymore in prison.

Man Orders Ramen After Assault: “If I Get Arrested, I Won’t Be Able to Eat it Anymore” – Defendant Explains in Initial Public Hearing of Violent Murder Case, Tokyo District Court

Man kills customer, sits down to second helping of ramen before being arrested

The initial public hearing in the jury trial of defendant Imanishi Shinichiro (38), an unemployed man from Adachi Ward, Tokyo, charged with manslaughter after allegedly assaulting and killing a male customer in a Chinese restaurant, was held in the Tokyo district court (presiding judge Sonohara Toshihiko) on March 13.

Imanishi has admitted to the charges, saying, “There’s no question about it.”

During questioning, when asked about the fact that he ordered an additional serving of ramen in the restaurant immediately after the assault, the defendant stated, “If I was going to be arrested right then, I thought I probably wouldn’t be able to eat properly anymore.”

In the opening statement, the prosecution asserted that Imanishi “became enraged over something trivial, and stomped forcefully on the victim’s face and other areas after pulling him to the floor.”

According to the indictment, Imanishi began quarreling with a male customer (49) in a Chinese restaurant in Kita ward on September 27 of last year. Imanishi then grabbed the man’s collar and dragged him down, stomping repeatedly on his face and stomach until he was dead.

Wasn’t there a non-violent option?

Don’t they serve ramen in prison?

If you won’t be able to eat ramen, why don’t you eat katsudon? [NB: it is a common trope of Japanese crime dramas that suspects feel guilty and confess after eating katsudon]

If you could eat ramen in prison, would this incident have happened in the first place?

I don’t get it. He ordered it after he killed the guy? Is he a psycho?

You just caused someone’s death, but you’re worried about your own future?

If you get the order, you might as well fill it.

How incredibly calm and composed.

Why was he able to order?

The dead guy is the one who won’t be able to eat anymore!!!

He killed someone for totally selfish reasons, so he should get capital punishment.

He weighed ramen against life, and this was the result!!

It’s amazing that the store gave him what he ordered. I guess they thought if they didn’t do what he said they would be killed too? w

If you saw a giant of over 100kg stomp someone to death right before your eyes, would you think about trying to resist him?

名無しさん@1周年 [in response to above]:

It’s probably because he looked ready to attack other customers and wreck the store. Weren’t they just trying to calm him down a bit?

This would never happen at Ichiran.

If he keeps thinking like this, he’ll become a fatty.

This is simply gluttony combined with selfishness. He killed the other guy. An asshole like this should have his tongue cut out so he can never enjoy eating again.

The theory is sound, but I wonder if he knew that the collapsed victim was dead?

He’s extremely gluttonous, that’s why he’s such a giant.
