Happy Halloween from japanCRUSH!

Halloween in Japan isn’t as much of a children’s holiday as it is in North America, but older people definitely make up for this with their enthusiasm! Children do sometimes dress up and get sweets (they don’t really trick or treat though), but for teens and young adults, Halloween is a major chance to indulge in a lot of the things Japanese people love: cosplaying, eating good food (especially sweets!) and totally overdoing it on the seasonal merchandising.

So here is something Halloween-themed: the awe of 2ch Netizens at pictures of a pumpkin carving competition.

From Hamusoku:

I didn’t see number 3 properly and thought it was Mr.Abe.
[This Mr. Abe is a character from the comic homo-erotic manga Kuso Miso Technique who started the popular “yaranaika?” meme, not to be confused with Prime Minister Abe, who does look a vaguely like that pumpkin, but who’s name is written with different K=kanji…]

名無しさん:

I had to go back and look at it again because of comment number 5.

ハムスターちゃんねるさん:

I’d be proper surprised if I saw that in the middle of the night like that Σ(゚д゚lll)

ハムスターちゃんねるさん:

Halloween seems like so much fun! If only it would properly take root in Japan.

ハムスターちゃんねるさん:

Were the insides completely turned into pie?

名無しさん:[in response to above]

Carving pumpkins aren’t made to be eaten.
They are too watery and stringy.
I think about all you can do is roast the seeds and eat them.

You couldn’t do this if you didn’t have as much time as we had.
