The most read story of the day was the embarrassing tale of a prefectural government employee who was caught pilfering pizza among other things from an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Not just one slice, but five kilograms (11 pounds) of food.
Netizens were unimpressed with the man’s conduct, and many doubted whether anyone could eat that much food, particularly after it had been stuffed into a plastic bag for the journey home.

Prefectural Government Employee Suspended for 5 Kilogram ‘Takeaway’ At All-You-Can-Eat Restaurant
On March 14 in Hyogo Prefecture, a male government employee (43) attached to the general affairs division of the personnel committee, who attempted to take more than 5 kilograms of food from an all-you-can-eat restaurant without asking, including pizza and okonomiyaki, has been disciplined by a three-month suspension from his job. The employee said he’d stuffed the food into a plastic bag and hid it in his rucksack, but reflected on what he had done, saying ‘It was a foolish thing to do’.
According to the prefectural government, the employee went with his family to a buffet-style restaurant in Kakogawa at around 11am on February 10. Although they had lunch there, the man stuffed pizza, okonomiyaki, cake, and donuts worth around 5,180 yen [approx. $54] into a plastic bag that he brought himself, intending to eat the food at home.
In that particular restaurant, when you take food home with you, you pay one yen per gram of food, but the man didn’t mention anything to the restaurant staff, and although his family warned him not to do it, he still continued to cram food in his bag.
