McDonald’s ‘Mega Fries’ Rumoured To Go On Sale In Japan

McDonalds "Mega Fries" to return to McDonalds Japan

Japanese youths seem to have an unusual fondness for McDonald’s fries. Particularly the consumption of large quantities of them.

So now, the internet is buzzing with rumours that McDonalds are about to put their “Mega Fries” on sale in Japan once again. The double serving of large fries is intended for sharing, but if the comments on 2ch are anything to go by, there will be plenty of netizens up for the challenge of eating a whole one alone…

From GetNews.jp:

Pictures Released Of McDonald’s Forthcoming “Mega Fries” That Contain 2 L-Size Servings! It’s All Too Much! (In The Sense Of Volume Of Food!)

The “Mega Fries” (formerly “Sharing Fries”) which contain 2 L-size servings of “McFries” has been talked about a lot here on GetNews. And when we wrote an article about them after catching wind of rumours in late April, they immediately went viral online.

Since they contain 2 L-size servings, the “Mega Fries” have a king-sized volume of 350g. We’ve managed to get hold of a top-secret photograph of these “Mega Fries”. Take a look above.

The larger serving on the left side of the photograph are the new “Mega Fries”. As we wrote before, that’s 350g of fries. On the right of the photograph is an M-size serving of McFries. In generally, you can get fully just by eating an M-size serving (143g), and when it comes to L-size, if you’re not a massive fries-lover, then you’re probably not going to get through them all.

And so who is driving demand for these “Mega Fries”, which go above and beyond L-size, and contain two L-size servings? It seems that McDonalds will start selling them with the aim of getting people to share fries together. Still, the price is 490 yen [$4.81], which is a little bit on the expensive side; you could get a set meal for the same price.

The freshly-made fries look delicious, but as time passes they go soggy and they start to lose their flavour. It’ll take time to the “Mega Fries”, so will they still be OK when you get to the end?

The new fries will go on trial sale in select branches from May 17, and will go on sale nation-wide from May 24. At the current time, no official announcement has been made.

When I first heard about this I thought it was just trolling…

Looks like they’d be pretty heavy on the stomach (´

That looks like the neighbourhood trash dump.

I’d rather buy 4 packs of potato chips.

I am confident that I could eat them all within one minute.

I guess this is family size (笑) You could never actually eat all that alone.

490 yen for potatoes and salt.

名無しさん@13周年:[in response to above]

You’ve forgotten the oil, dude.

So all they’ve done is stuffed 2 L-size servings into one box, right?

Seems like it’d be cheaper to just get those frozen fries they sell in the supermarket and nuke them in the microwave.

Feels like there’s more actual potato in a 98 yen bag of Amijaga potato chips.

So now our staple food is potato?
Did a war just end?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like fries, but not even two people could eat all that.

Our Westernization is sealed.

If you had no ketchup, that’d be pretty dire.

You’d be in trouble if you didn’t order them without the sale and with like 10 things of ketchup.

This looks super bad for you.

I’ll take a mega fries, please.
Hey baby, how ’bout eatin’ some fries together?

Oh, I thought that the size of the potatoes was going to double (´・ω・`). So I guess they’re just putting more of the same stuff in those boxes, huh!

This is great www Seems like something people might start having at the cinema instead of popcorn www
