In recent times wherever there has been SNS, there has been revenge porn. And Japan is no exception.

Late last year, the Abe administration voted on an Anti-Revenge Porn Bill, and this was promulgated as the Anti-Revenge Porn Act of 2014. By May 2015, there had already been several guilty judgements under the new law.

Now, Tokyo police have arrested a man for sharing naked images of a woman on SNS app LINE, the first time the law has been applied to a suspect who did not take the photos himself, but rather shared them from a friend.

Netizens on SNS site mixi are outraged by his behavior, while others question why the woman allowed naked photos of herself to be taken in the first place.

From Asahi Digital:

Man Suspected Of Sharing Naked Images Of Woman On LINE App, First Test Of Revenge Porn Laws

Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced on June 22 that unemployed suspect Uchikawa Kazuki (27) of Kamikodanaka 1-chome, Nakahara Ward, Kawasaki City, had been arrested on suspicion of being in violation of the Anti-Revenge Porn Act and for defamation. Uchikawa allegedly shared naked images of a woman uploaded by a friend on the free communication app “LINE”. According to police, this is the first time in Japan that the law has been applied for someone having shared images that were taken by someone else.

Between April 16 and 17, the suspect sent images of a topless woman in her twenties to LINE group chats from his smartphone, and allowed large numbers of people to access them. The pictures had been taken by one of his friends on LINE. The suspect admits to the crime, and stated that “I posted them because I thought it would liven up the group chat”.

In April last year, the woman participated in a LINE group that was made by friends she had met while playing SNS games. Following this, earlier this month police arrested Takakubo Takuma (unemployed, 26), of Besshocho, Kanazawa City, a LINE friend of the woman, under the Anti-Revenge Porn Act for having taken pictures of her as she was changing her clothes and uploading them to LINE. Uchikawa, who was a LINE friend of both the man and the woman, sent the pictures to the group chat, and even shared them in other group chats.

Comments from mixi.jp:

He’s 27 and he still can’t tell the difference between right and wrong — that’s why he’s unemployed.

So wait, first of all this was a picture of her changing her clothes? WTF? I wonder if he took the photo without permission?

Unemployed, playing online games on his smartphone? Wouldn’t he be better off dead?

How about exposing the criminals behind the revenge porn online too?

So his understanding of peoples’ feelings and his powers of imagination haven’t changed since kindergarten, huh.

Guess it really is impossible for a monkey to work a machine (笑).

The victim is also at fault for allowing naked pictures of her to be taken.

From time to time you see people like this. Idiots who upload things themselves and end up destroying themselves.

They do things to others that they would think were atrocious if they were done to themselves (´・Д・)」. Guess they just like mocking people…

Guess this was S-Naked-S (´・ω・`)

Pathetic loser…his friends knew about it too…

A stable slacker. So jealous. I mean this guy has no job but he can survive, he even has a smartphone, and is on LINE all the time…

Hang on — why are all these people unemployed at 26 and 27?

WTF? What an awful thing to do…And? Which picture was it?

This pathetic man will never be forgiven. Don’t even show your face on the streets again.

Don’t be all writing articles without pictures!?

There’s nothing for it but a harsh punishment to put an end to this kind of thing.

So they go from being unemployed chums to prison chums?

Let’s stop all these games with naked women (´・ω・`)

Even when you’re lovers and you let your photo be taken, make sure you get one of him too. Because you never know.
