Last weekend, a 21 year-old man was arrested on charges that he had given marijuana to a high school student who then in turn sold it to his friends for some quick cash. Nothing about the story was that unusual—aside from the fact that the suspect named Takeuchi appeared to be the son of Toru Takeuchi, a member of famous Japanese rock band The Checkers.

But most comments were fixated on Takeuchi’s strange half-shaved, half-bald hairstyle. Some even wondered if his strange baldness might be the reason he had turned to a life of crime.

From FNN News::

“21 Year-Old Male Arrested On Suspicion Of Handing Over Marijuana To 3rd Year High School Student

A man has been arrested by Metropolitan Police for handing over marijuana to a male high school student.
The suspect named Takeuchi, who is unemployed, is suspected of supplying a 3rd year high school student (age 18) with roughly 0.5 grams of marijuana at his home in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo in June.
The boy was also arrested for selling the drug to a 17-year-old classmate for 7,000 yen.
The boy received marijuana from Takeuchi ten times, using it for himself and also selling it to classmates “for spending money”, as he testified.
Police are continuing to work on uncovering the full extent of drug corruption within the school.

What is up with his head?

Don’t let this strange hairstyle remind me of Checkers

How awful to have hair like that at the age of 21
I wonder, does pot stop hair growth?

Is that kind of baldness an illness?
Or did he slip out of the salon halfway through getting a haircut?

Why is he so bald?
Is it a result of the drugs? wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

His eyes seem dead in contrast to how hard he’s staring at the camera

Looks like he’d go easily down in a fight! www
And he’s giving such a dirty look for someone so bald! ROFL

Is that baldness the result of some kind of punishment game?

The desperation of going bald at 21 must have made him turn rotten…

I guess the baldness made him go bad.

Even a bald guy like me understands his plight.

I wonder if it’s because he’s bald that he ended up like this.
I’ll cut him some slack w

Is he bald because of the weed, or did he go rotten because of the baldness and get involved with weed?
I wish someone would clearly establish the cause and effect.

[In response to the attached picture] This is the face of true despair

I thought he was an old guy. He doesn’t look 21.

There’s no end to the amount of drug-related corruption from the offspring of those in the entertainment industry.

Is that what pot does to you?
He’s got a crazy look in his eyes.

I’m more interested in his baldness than in the case.

Poor Japan – so negative towards weed, which is harmless on almost all levels, yet you encourage and tolerate rabid alcoholism amoung your company workers.

Kids on drugs, whatever. Does anyone remember when shrooms were legal and you could buy them from a guy in Shibuya sitting on a chair in front of a signboard with the shrooms stapled to the board in baggies? Shibuya and Harajuku are saturated with drugs.

It’s not harmless, though granted in comparison to alcohol and all that other nasty stuff, it’s the most inoffensive drug out there.

Which would you prefer: Students getting drunk, angry and hurting people, or stoned students laughing at cartoons and eating 5 bags of doritos?

Is male pattern baldness rare in Japan? What’s up with all the comments on dude’s hair (or lack thereof)?

Supposedly it’s on the rise due to a western diet.
1> less soy. Soy isoflavones see less androgen
receptor production and if youre an
      equol producer, handcuffs DHT

2> more high glycemic index foods. This prob-
oably leads to less SBHG (globulin)
      Production, which “binds” test-
osterone and makes less of it
      available to androgen receptors and
to alpha 5 reductase, so less DHT
      is made also.

3> more saturated animal fats. This may lead to
      more alpha 5 reductase enzyme
      getting synthesized in the liver,
      so more DHT-making happens.

      Elevated DHT causes baldness.
